Hammond records that you facilitate students into their zone of genius through a process called wayfinding. This method is described as how people navigate where they are going in life as well as physical places. This is what helps people ensure that they are moving in the right direction. One champion that I had to help me way find would probably be one of my athletic coaches. I feel as though my coaches have helped me way find because they encouraged me to try new thing regardless of what’s i thought i was capable of. This was important for me in finding my way because it allowed me to sec what interested me.
We can refocus students in order to find their aha moment by helping them to not give up. This will allow them to feel more confident because they will be able to see that they are capable of gaining knowledge and overcoming their struggles. This can also be done by the way that they process the information they are receiving. Teachers can trigger dopamine and oxytocin by reducing stress. This can allow the effects of cortisol to be reversed by enabling people to be more adaptive situations that require social interaction and working with others. This requires a sense of trust in order to succeed.
We can scaffold in ways than just group work by starting with the it picture. This will allow students to see where they want to be and what the steps are for getting there. Finding ways to relate how what students are learning to regular everyday life can also help scaffold because it gives them something to relate to. Learning by doing things will allow students to gain these real life experiences. An academic mindset is described as being confident hat you are able to accomplish all that you want to. This means that you believe that you can succeed and feeling a sense of belonging. These are all things that the students should aloe when being educated.
The warm demander is described as the students getting the push and care to succeed. These are the teachers that want to push students to their limits so they don’t short sell themselves. This is also used to help them build confidence. You can help students build confidence by being positive and encouraging them to not give up. This will allow students to see that their teachers are in full support of them and can create a sense of trust which is needed for them to fully succeed.
We can help students counteract negativity bias by allowing them to talk about their positive outcome for more than 90 seconds so that they are able to avoid negativity. This will help them build confidence so that they are not affected by negative thoughts. This will also give the the time to process the positive accomplishment rather than just forgetting about it.
One thing that schools need to get rid of is deficit thinking. One of the areas that come out of this is the idea of cultural poverty. Teachers should not try to associate a students economic status with how they perform because that its not a positive way of thinking. Racial stress is another thing that needs to be ridden of in classrooms because it makes specific races feel as though they have to live up to a specific standard.
Some tools that synch with collective cultures can include things that require memorization, puzzles, patterns, word play, and seeing differing perspectives. This will allow students of multiple different cultures to showcase their skills because they are not fully limited to one way of learning.
One question that I would like answered is do these methods always produce positive results and how do you counteract them if they don’t?
